ProQuest Selects eMeta to Power Web Archive for Publishing Industry

eRights Suite to Provide Security and Commerce Functionality for ProQuest Archiver

NEW YORK - April 14, 2002 - eMeta Corporation, the leading provider of enterprise software that maximizes the value of digital assets and services, today announced that ProQuest Company has implemented the eRights Suite to protect and provide full commerce functionality for ProQuest Archiver. Specifically, ProQuest is now using the eRights Suite to manage the protection, packaging, pricing and billing of online archive content for more 8,500 publishers worldwide.

The eRights Suite has been deployed as the commerce backbone for ProQuest Archiver, a service that provides publishers with a turnkey, e-commerce-enabled online archive solution. ProQuest Archiver is used by major newspaper publishers worldwide, including USA Today , The Associated Press, the Tribune Corporation and Scottish Media Group. With the enhancements that the eRights Suite provides, ProQuest Archiver customers have greater flexibility in determining packaging and billing options for their customers.

"ProQuest Archiver provides publishers with a flexible, customized tool for managing their online archives," said Diane Schulman, director of publisher services, ProQuest. "The eRights Suite not only supplies the security and access control elements necessary to effectively manage an archive, but most importantly, it delivers the commerce features ProQuest customers need to more effectively profit from that content."

ProQuest provides global access to the largest commercial repository in the world, and has more than 60 years of experience in archiving published materials. ProQuest developed ProQuest Archiver to allow periodicals to develop digitized custom archives of their online content. With addition of the eRights Suite and its ability to preserve the value of information through metering the terms and conditions of use, ProQuest Archiver has taken a significant step forward in the evolution of content-based e-commerce.

"Publishers must find new ways to capitalize on the value of their online information and ProQuest is a key component of many leading publishers' strategies," said Jon Lewin, founder and CTO of eMeta Corporation. "The addition of the eRights Suite's extensive commercialization technology to ProQuest Archiver gives publishers a more productive channel for revenue generation."
