NYTimes.com Goes Live with eRights, eMeta's Information Access Control and Commerce Solution

eRights Powers Streaming Video, Archived Article Bundles on NYTimes.com

NEW YORK, NY - April 23 , 2002 - New York Times Digital and eMeta Corporation today announced that NYTimes.com has gone live with eRights, eMeta's information access control and commerce solution, to expand product offerings and simplify subscriber access to its archives.

NYTimes.com is using eRights, eMeta's flagship technology, to expand the online sales capabilities of the Web site. An enterprise software solution, eRights enables the management of the customers, products, subscriptions and billing necessary to facilitate the sale of digital content.

"By using eRights to power the sale of premium content on NYTimes.com, we're gaining flexibility for our growing e-commerce efforts," said Scott Meyer, vice president and general manager of NYTimes.com. "Now we're able to provide a wider and more easily updated product selection, and we're making access to that information much easier for our users."

In addition to serving as the commerce backbone for NYTimes.com's archives, eRights is facilitating the sale of newly released premium products like Times Talks, NYTimes.com's first paid streaming video product. Other premium products powered by eRights include Topics in Depth, collections of archived articles by Times columnists including Thomas Friedman and William Safire; Editors' Picks, bundles of articles and multimedia created around a particular topic such as Oscar Best Pictures; and The New York Times crossword puzzles online.

"To be working in partnership with NYTimes.com is a further validation of the power of the eMeta technology platform to handle not only print, but also a wide variety of multimedia offerings," said Ethan Mollick, Vice President of Business Development for eMeta. "NYTimes.com is offering its customers unique, exclusive product bundles, and is clearly among the leaders in online merchandising - pushing the envelope of e-commerce possibilities."
