eMeta Software Provides eCommerce Infrastructure for edweek.org

Leading Educational News and Information Portal Completes eRightsWEB Upgrade, Implements Paid Content

NEW YORK, November 17, 2005 -- eMeta Corporation, the leading provider of access control, subscription management and ecommerce software, today announced that Editorial Projects in Education, Inc. (EPE) is using eMeta’s ASP, eRightsWEB, to sell online and print plus digital subscriptions on its flagship Web site, edweek.org. EPE, the independent publisher of Education Week, Teacher Magazine and edweek.org, implemented registration and customer care with eRightsWEB last year.

“eRightsWEB has successfully powered our registration system since 2004, and with the recent launch of the paid content area of edweek.org, we’re now positioned to generate online-only subscription revenue from the site,” said Michele Givens, General Manager, EPE. “Our early results are incredibly promising, and we’re looking forward to working with eMeta to refine the ways we serve our online audience’s content needs using eRightsWEB capabilities.”

With eRightsWEB, edweek.org is offering access to three content “tiers” – anonymous, registered users and paid premium content. The software gives Education Week print subscribers free access to premium online content through coupons even as it enables purchase of new subscriptions. In addition, automatic renewals, free trials and other promotions are possible with eRightsWEB.

“This is edweek.org’s first paid content initiative,” said Brian Kocsy, Director of Hosted Services, eMeta. “Not only will Editorial Projects in Education achieve completely new and recurring revenue streams, but it will also continue to enjoy the simplicity of an outsourced application. eRightsWEB is managed by us, allowing organizations to focus on their core businesses, not back-end technology. We wish EPE and edweek.org continued success with the product.”

eRightsWEB is the hosted version of eMeta’s eRights Suite, a state-of-the-art access control and ecommerce solution providing media, software and entertainment companies with the tools to monetize their digital goods and services. With the eRights Suite, organizations can effectively control and commercialize content, audio, video, streaming media, games and software applications. RightAccess is the access control module within the eRights Suite, enabling registration. RightCommerce provides the billing and payment functionalities within eRights, as well as the flexibility to implement promotions and access user accounts on the fly.
