Ovid Technologies Launches eMeta Software

eMeta's eRights Suite Creates New Revenue Streams by Employing Pay-Per-View Capabilities

LONDON - Dec. 2, 2003 -- eMeta Corporation, the leading provider of software that maximizes the value of digital assets and services, today announced that Ovid Technologies, a medical information solutions provider, has implemented eMeta's eRights(TM) Suite into the Ovid platform to support its PayPerView service. Using eRights, Ovid is now able to provide its customers and non-Ovid customers that link to Ovid with pay- per-view access to its renowned Journals@Ovid database. This option allows researchers, clinicians, and students to purchase full-text articles when their institution has not purchased the rights to access those journals.

Providing the critical infrastructure and applications necessary to secure and sell online research, eMeta's award-winning eRights Suite was integrated with the Ovid Web Gateway. Ovid Web Gateway is Ovid's flagship solution and provides users with a feature-rich, web-interface to access databases, full- text journals and electronic books for a seamless, efficient search and retrieval experience. eRights enforces Ovid's PayPerView policies, provides a shopping cart, customer care and customer self-care, allowing users to see their billing transactions and order history and maintain up-to-date personal information. The system manages transactions and refunds and provides report data to Ovid.

"Ovid is committed to providing information professionals with the highest quality content, tools and services that best enables them to perform their critical job functions," said Bette Brunelle, executive vice president, products and services, Ovid. "By integrating eMeta's solution into our existing web-based platform, we have taken a significant step forward in our ongoing effort to provide users with access to full text."

Journals@Ovid offers a selection of more than 1,000 high-quality medical and scientific journals from more than 50 of the top publishers worldwide. Additionally, Journals@Ovid is well-known for its robust searching, linking and integration with bibliographic databases.

"eMeta's mission is to provide our customers with the tools to offer their users greater and better subscriber options, such as the ability to purchase individual articles on an as-needed basis," said Jonathan Lewin, CEO of eMeta Corporation. "The eRights Suite creates a win-win situation for Ovid and the researchers who depend on Ovid for premium scientific and medical content."
